Tamilnadu Theological Seminary

TECCA / Rural TECCA

Formally started in 1974, The Theological Education for Christian Commitment and Action (TECCA) was aimed at offering an opportunity for laypersons who are desirous of studying theology and who do not have the time and money to enroll in a full time residential programme. "A Theologically informed laity was an integral part of the Sseminary's vision of the future Cchurch". This was the enduring rational (Rationale) behind the inauguration of this programme. This Theological Education by Extension enables those laypersons to learn together at a convenient place, time and pace(place).

A complete course, usually on weekends, at present at five geographical centres in Tamilnadu, would consists of 10 sessions spread over two years. The faculty members organise lectures, group discussions, time for singing and prayers, including visits to local temples and mosques. This provides the participants to identify issues in the life of the churches and also to meet fundamentalist tendencies with a sound Biblical Theology. Realising the need, since TECCA was more or less 'Urban', the Rural Tecca(TECCA) was initiated in the year 1980 to cater to the needs of the rural people.
