Center for Social Analysis

With the spread of the insight, during the early 70's seventies, that a radical transformation of society was needed in order to bring about social justice., TTS, involved itself in initiating the Centre For Social Analysis (CSA) during the very same time when the Emergency was declared in India, and the CSA started off with a critical analysis of the impact and manifestations of the Government's Twenty point programme. In 1975, through CSA, a course on "understanding the society" was first offered to the B.D. & B.Th. students in TTS.

Since then, the CSA has metamorphosed into a centre of learning for students of Social Analysis, with its faculty members directly incharge of the Social Analysis specialization of the M.Th. course besides taking up classes on related topics for the B.D. students.

The bimonthly colloquium of the staff and students with social activists and participants has contributed to a fruitful interaction between practical experiences, praxis based reflections and scrutiny of theoretical models. This has led to an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the linkages between the concerns of the Women's Movement, Anti-Caste Movement, and Eco-Movement with a practical and theoretical critique of capitalism.

Besides a fully equipped library with 3600 books and documentation on related topics of Social Analysis, the centre also involves in an active participation in the various Women's Movements, the National Association of People Movements, the Narmada Bachao Andolan etc., It also runs a programme for the city college students called Elavattam, with a view to develop greater critical understanding of the society today.
